COVID-19 Precautions
Safety is our biggest priority this year. There have been many studies over the last few months that have researched band-specific factors that lead to the spread of the Coronavirus. Rehearsing outside in the sun while social-distancing is the safest approach. Moving indoors provides more health risks, particularly with wind instruments. Here are a few guidelines that we’ll be following to accomplish our goals in the safest and most efficient way possible:
- Complete a health self-assessment each morning (section leaders check-in with their section members daily)
- Masks must be worn indoors at all times. This includes:
- Meetings or lectures
- Indoor rehearsals
- Auxiliaries and percussionists wear masks at all times
- Winds remove masks to play but put them back on when not playing
- Just passing through the building
- Masks are not required during outdoor rehearsals, but students should stand at least 6ft apart
- Students should only handle his/her own equipment, including instruments, instrument cases, batons, flags, sticks/mallets, water bottle, backpack, etc.
- 5-minute break every 30 minutes indoors to allow students to refresh and for clean air to circulate through the room
- Stay in your “bubbles” during free time or social activities (roommate groups and/or small sections)
